Polity Atlas
LiveHow societies organise, mapped.

Open research on how societies organise themselves. Explore sourced concepts and mechanisms, a world map of real institutional experiments, and a lab for designing and stress-testing institutions.
Polity Atlas is an open research platform on how societies organise themselves, and on who holds power when intelligence is no longer only human.
What you can do
| Section | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Knowledge Atlas | Concepts, mechanisms and thinkers, linked to each other and to their sources. |
| Living Atlas | A world map and catalogue of institutional experiments: operating, contested, proposed and closed. |
| Governance Explorer | Institutions compared on freedom, accountability, resilience, incentives and conflict resolution. |
| Polity Lab | Combine real mechanisms into a design, then look at its trade-offs and stress-test it. |
| Observatory | Signals, briefings and scenarios on AI governance, post-labour economics and digital statehood. |
Built as a graph
Concepts, mechanisms, projects, claims and evidence are the primary records, and articles are views over the links between them. Every claim carries a status: established, theory, disputed, hypothesis or forecast. Answers from Ask the Atlas are put together from these linked, sourced records.
Open by default
Every entity, claim, source and experiment can be read through a public API without a key. Content is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 and data ODbL. The site is available in 10 languages.
